Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, like all health care institutions, is facing increasingly complex ethical challenges related to the increase in scientific knowledge and technology.
The mission of the Clinical Ethics Committee is to help improve the quality of care
patients receive by reviewing, analysing and making recommendations about complex ethical situations.
In keeping with the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre mission statement we recognize the care and comfort of patients is of primary concern. Being in a hospital is difficult for most patients. Patients and their families may feel vulnerable and apprehensive. We strongly believe that humane behaviour and compassionate care are important elements in meeting the needs of our patients.
We do this is by:
Developing ethical expertise within the Clinical Ethics Committee.
Promoting educational opportunities in ethics for all staff at Indian Spinal Injuries Centre.
Developing ethical policies related to patient care, education and governance functions of the hospital.
Reviewing clinical cases in order to advise on future directions and ethical stances for Indian Spinal Injuries Centre.
Responding to requests to draft policies or position papers regarding ethical matters.
Coordinating subcommittees (short or long term) to focus on specific issues
or areas of interest within the hospital.
